Got an email a couple weeks ago from the guys FNA Radio. Apparently they found some of the tracks we had posted on the The Favourite Game website and Rock went to #2 in it's first week. It's always fun when people find your music and like it without us having to say anything.
Anyway, they wanted to do an interview so we setup a whole Skype thing (I'd never tried it actually but it worked great). I think it's going to be airing Wednesday March 18 @ 8pm so check it out at FNARadio.com
Oh yeah and if you don't know who "The Favourite Game" then check out the website.

It was fun to be able to see some of my good friends performing past weekend. I happened to be in LA on business on a perfect weekend to catch Soul Scribes in their CD release performance. I've known a number of the members for years and it was fun to be able to support them in this their debut CD. It's always fun hanging out with old friends and this was a cool opportunity to see people I don't normally get to see.
Soul Scribes is an eclectic mix of raggae, hip hop and rock music, an interesting mix. I haven't had a chance to take a listen to their CD yet so I had no reference point which is always a good test of whether a band can easily garner a fresh audience. The dancibility is a huge plus for these guys with familiar beats and up tempo rhythms. A couple of songs included memorable hooks which were mostly lyrically based, something I'm not used to.
If you're in the Los Angeles area I definitely recommend checking Soul Scribes out. It's a blend of music you don't find too many other places, and these guys (and girl) pull it off and keep your head bobbing all night. Take a listen on their myspace page

I thought I'd write a brief endorsement of the new (and debut) Cancel Winter album. When we were SEeKing Dawn we used to play with Nates old band Slipnaught (which became Fellow Nameless because of the other Sliknot). Fellow Nameless continues to be one of my favourite bands of all time. It's too bad it didn't work out for them.
So it was a sort of nostalgia, linked with the support of a friend, that I went out to see Cancel Winter's first performance in London at Call the Office. I had liked what I heard on myspace and was interested how that sound would translate live.
The first thing that drew me was that Nate writes great hooks. Those little melodies and riffs that stick in your head for days. The chorus on "The Silence" is simple but has an intensity. As a drummer I love the change up of rhythms halfway through that drives the lyrics deeper. The Beatles-esque organ on "Change" linked with the catchy chorus kept me signing that one long after.
Nate looked like he was having a good time which always means something to me in a live show. If you're not having fun on stage then why are you doing it? It draws the crowd in and connects them with the band. It was fun to see Nick Richard (who played drums on a number of tracks on the album, and was the drummer for Fellow Nameless) dancing and singing along right in the front.
It's sad to see the past go with all the great music and times that came out of it. But all that talent isn't going to ways, just being expressed in different and more interesting ways.

It really seems quite amazing that even though I was working full time in the video industry that I never uploaded a video to YouTube. Recently I was going to do just that but then our video camera broke. That Sony TRV-900 was the best damn video camera I had ever used.
A couple days ago I purchased a new DV camera just to be able to play back all our existing tapes. I have a huge box full and I couldn't even playback 1 of them. I ended up getting a cheap little Sony for under $300 at Best Buy as an open box. I figured I needed to do it soon as DV tapes are almost obsolete already! The next camera I buy will be HD and record directly to an SD-card.
This video comes from the SEeKing Dawn Video Anthology Volume 1. We had been doing video on our old VHS camera for years and this was a compilation of some of the best of them. I just put up our most famous one to begin with. I still have old friends come up to me and quote "Macho Taco". I think the idea came out of the fact that Josh worked at Burger King and Andrew worked at Taco Bell.
This is the story of how that merger would happen. Taco Bell and Burger King merge to become "Macho Taco"

Well, I think I kinda figured out Myspace and updated our profile a bit. I still stand in protest of it. One of these days I'll get around to styling it properly like Muse .

We made an interesting revelation at our last practice session. You can identify the Super Mario Brothers trademark song by rhythm alone. Try it! The craziness led to the creation of a new character that spans 2 iconic worlds - Jar Jar Mario.
